HISTORY OF THE BAND

In 1927 there were about 3500 Ismailis in Karachi. They had to spend large sums of money for local bands on the occasions of jubilation, marriages and festivity. Vazir Hussain Teja Mukhi Ramzan had realized this and started a move in June, 1927 to form the very first Ismaili band in Karachi at Kharadhar. His plan was admired and encouraged by persons like Pir Sabzeali Ramzanali. Vazir Bande Ali Kassam, Rahim Datoo, Rai Russain Vazir Karim Kassarn, Vazir Abbas Ali Mohammed and Hussain H.M. Ghulam Hussain. Donations from various individuals were collected to cover the cost of instruments and uniforms. At that time the cost of Side-Drum was Rs. 70/- Bass-Drum for Rs. 110/-. Bungle for Rs. 15/- and Flute for Rs. 12/-. About 14 persons assembled at Vazir Fadhoo's building to chalk out a programme. Gradually, the instruments were purchased and kept at Vazir Ebrahim's house. Members were given adequate training by a Parsi tutor, Mr. Manek Baroocha of Auxiliary Force Band at Alidina Ali Mohammed School. They learnt about two/three marches within two months, and were almost ready for public appearance.

The Ismaili banner My-Flag was hoisted first time at Kharadhar Jamatkhana on August 17, 1927 by Rai Alidina Ali Mohammad, the then President of Ismailia Local Counci. The Band was asked to join in the ceremony and give its first performance. read more>>
